The taste has a medium to rich texture, beginning with creamy tropical fruits with a slight sourness that quickly shifts to a moderate bitter pepper spice. This slowly fades to charred lemon and limes, burning hay, vanilla saltwater taffy, and cocoa powder-dusted prunes, followed by white grapes, apricots, and red grapefruit juice. It concludes with ginger, cloves, and mild black pepper spice, featuring a high alcohol burn. The finish is medium in length with burning hay, slightly sour tropical fruits, vanilla sea salt taffy, spicy dark chocolate mocha, dehydrated figs, and candied ginger. This expression amplifies the characteristic Glen Scotia notes of citrus, farmyard, ocean brine, and rocky minerality with its elevated 54.2% ABV, resulting in a bolder and richer spirit. However, a youthful sourness and moderate pepper spice disrupt the balance for me. At over $100, this doesn't seem like a good value, and I would prefer to pay an additional $20+ for the 18-year-old version, which smooths out the sourness for creamy fruits and a light pepper spice.

This Glen Scotia Victoriana Cask Strength is rich and complex! A fantastic dram! It has a pale gold hue and a viscous texture. On the nose: Notes range from sweet to savory caramel, coastal salt, vanilla, and anise. Later, toffee and tobacco emerge. On the palate: Caramel appears immediately, followed by a cayenne pepper-like spice, possibly from the high alcohol content. The finish is hot and brief. I added water due to the strong ABV. The finish, after dilution, is like fresh mint after the initial burn. After adding water: On the nose: The caramel and salted caramel intensity gives way to softer sugary cereal notes, hints of charred oak, and residual anise. On the palate: The heat transforms into a subtle smokiness, revealing sugary cereals and some fruitiness with a mix of pear and apple, finishing with tobacco smoke. The finish is not lengthy but dry. A fresh herbal/mint sensation follows the finish. This is a very characterful whisky with abundant aromas. It slightly lacks palate complexity as the heat is overpowering, but it opens up with a few drops of water. Cheers!

Nose: Buttered toast, honey, oak, vanilla, citrus. Palate: Sweet fruit/berries, chocolate cherries, juicy/jammy fruit. Hints of charred oak. Finish: Dark chocolate, thick jam, kirsch cherries, dusty smoke/ash, ginger. Warming, jammy, and lightly charred. There's an initial alcohol kick on the nose, but it quickly mellows into jam and chocolate on the palate. This has become a genuinely favored everyday spirit for me, and I keep buying another bottle whenever I finish one. Delicious! It received my vote for best of the tasting and came in second overall.

Aroma - Initially subtle with orange, it evolves with more vanilla and a charred character, also suggesting a nutty scent. Taste - A thicker mouthfeel, with notes of peppercorn and what I'd describe as a dark flavor profile. Finish - Moderately long and very satisfying, leaving a temporary aftertaste reminiscent of aged black tea. Score - 4.5, genuinely enjoy this pour, quite good overall. Scoring Guide 5.0 - Outstanding, unparalleled. 4.5 - Excellent, I will always try to keep a bottle on hand. 4.0 - Very good, enjoyable to drink, a reliable option. 3.5 - Good, would try again. 3.0 - Average. 2.5 - Acceptable, still drinkable. 2.0 - Inferior, drinkable but not pleasant. 1.5 and below—would not drink again unless absolutely necessary.

While some argue that age statements are losing importance, I must disagree. However, there are exceptions. The aroma of Glen Scotia Victoriana is distinctly classic, combining porridge, spiced oranges, and tobacco with sea spray, sweet licorice, and peppermint. A barrage of spices and citrus fruits initiates the bold entry, followed by aniseed, wood smoke, and ginger. There's certainly evidence of mature spirit in this blend. The elegant charred oak is prominent from aroma to finish in this young Scotch, accompanied by floral and honey notes. Initially, there's no caramel or candied fruit like in the 15-year-old, indicating a completely different recipe. However, after two weeks of opening, the raisins and Christmas dessert (spices and jams) become delightful. A subtle orange peel also makes its way through the rich, silky body. Truly a lovely sipping Scotch that benefits from aeration, time, and a couple of spoonfuls of water.
