Backbone Prime Blended Bourbon

Nose: Wood that has been toasted, caramel, vanilla Palate: Vanilla, caramel with some fruits and baking spices near the end Finish: Brief, lingering sweetness and some tannic qualities This brand's main product is interesting. Its current blend includes straight bourbon of various ages, straight rye, and a touch of 16-year-old light whiskey. All components are made at MGP. Once it opens up, it's a drinkable pour with a traditional bourbon character despite the diverse ingredients. Since most of the blend is from 3-4 year old distillate, credit is due for creating a palatable drink through blending. Its youth is only slightly apparent in the finish. It's a decent value at $35. It has the profile and proof to be an okay whiskey, but like others at this price point, don't expect complexity.

A spicy initial impression, a thick mouthfeel, and no significant 'Kentucky Hug' despite the higher alcohol content. The taste and warmth linger on the tip of the tongue and the roof of the mouth. There's an underlying sweetness and some vanilla present. It's a decent offering and certainly one I'll keep on hand as an alternative to my usual choices. I'm definitely curious to sample their other products now!

A pleasing sweet and spicy aroma that hints at barrel flavors to come. The initial taste is of hot spice, and swirling it in your mouth releases the barrel oils. The spicy finish lingers but it is a well-rounded selection.

While not as good as the 10 year expression, it's still quite enjoyable! This application does not feature the 10 year. It might be the finest bourbon I have ever tasted.

Lots of vanilla on the nose, full-bodied. Less sweet, more like caramel and brown sugar, with a spicy finish.

A greatly overlooked bourbon. It starts spicy but concludes with a pleasant aftertaste.
