El Jolgorio Barril Mezcal

It offers a scent of fruit and vegetal notes with herbal undertones and hints of spice. The taste, however, is intensely minty with considerable spice and a clean impression of tobacco smoke. This certainly possesses the typical mezcal characteristics. It has a touch of heat, which is unusual for this spirit. It's definitely on the drier, more bitter side. The herbal and vegetal notes persist, accompanied by only a few fruits (banana, mango, and pear) for sweetness. The cooked agave is present but not particularly remarkable. It's quite harsh, though some cocoa eventually emerges. If you're seeking a mezcal flavor, this delivers. It bears a resemblance to a certain other mezcal, but with more chocolate than bourbon-like cinnamon and vanilla. Sweetness gradually develops alongside the chocolate, making it more approachable, although by that point, only a couple of notes truly stand out, with the rest being rather generic. As it progresses, more toffee emerges with chocolate and turmeric. The flavor profile becomes slightly more spiced (the enjoyable kind, not the hot kind) and intriguingly unique. It's a respectable mezcal that could be sipped, but it doesn't captivate me. It still carries a significant amount of alcohol and is excessively drying, filled with the expected mezcal notes. The alcohol content is quite noticeable, so a less potent version might have been beneficial.
