Don Pilar Extra Añejo Tequila

It smells like bourbon, and the taste is like very diluted bourbon. This is an odd experience. There's some mint and lots of cinnamon, but it's not too spicy. It resembles the mildest bourbon. It's not very sweet, yet it has a lot of vanilla. Because of this, it has a coconut La Croix flavor. There's abundant wood, which I genuinely like even though it's a little too bitter and one-dimensional. A little caramel and a hint of cherry eventually appear, but the overall complexity is quite low and the flavors aren't very vibrant. It's drinkable, but creating a tequila that tastes like weak bourbon isn't a real achievement. It's amusing because I like it as a tequila, but despite the enjoyment (from a tequila standpoint), the eventual complexity is insufficient. The minimal negative flavors elevate it from a 12 to a 13, but a low-cost (or perhaps mid-priced) bourbon would be a superior option.
