An appealing aroma, especially for rum enthusiasts. Notes of syrup, raisins, dates, brown sugar, substantial dry wood, and nuttiness. The palate is highly polished. Many of the fruity and dessert-like notes typical of Brandy have diminished. The fruit that remains is dried. The wood is prominent, but the tannin level isn't as high as anticipated. The texture is smooth, but at what expense? Although one wouldn't typically gulp this down, a sip makes you momentarily consider it. This Brandy possesses considerable polish; while commendable in a spirit, it's excessive in this instance.

About this bottle
Artisanal vintage armagnac production, a category far removed from commercial offerings, is exemplified by Domaine d'Aurensan, which is new to the American market. The production process involves numerous meticulous steps: fermentation with native yeast, no added sulfur, alembic distillation, barrels made from timber on the estate, and bottling without added color, filtration, or water. They are also transitioning to biodynamic viticulture, which is uncommon in the region. Over 40 years of aging in barrels that are not refilled results in significant interaction with oxygen, creating a robust and rich profile, though this also leads to substantial spirit evaporation. This armagnac is crafted without any compromises.
