Diep 9 Old Genever

This is my first experience with genever, and not having anything to compare it to might influence my initial assessment, but wow! I always considered genever to be the precursor to gin, and there's definitely that botanical flavor present around the edges. The taste of cereal and oak truly takes center stage initially. You also get malt, grape, and spice. This is a very oily spirit compared to my usual crisp London Drys, and it enhances the impression that I'm sipping a hybrid of whiskey, wine, and beer. The unique character is certainly fascinating, but is it GOOD? Again, I have no prior genever experience, but I believe it's a great spirit to enjoy on a cold evening. Perhaps you could surprise your friends and family with its taste. The clay bottle it comes in is quite stunning, and I imagine it will serve well as a vase or something similar once I finish this intriguing drink.
