Beautiful natural color, ranging from amber to copper. It's non-chill filtered, quite viscous, and oily. The nose is mature and complex, starting with a hint of smoked sprats in oil, aged oak, a touch of vanilla, and raisins in the background. Notes of dried grass and the scent of an old wooden cabin deep in a forest during autumn come to mind. The palate is complex, predominantly sweet with a subtle bitter oakiness, and aromas of figs, apples, raisins, vanilla, butterscotch, and lemon zest harmonizing beautifully. The sherry influence is clearly detectable. The finish is medium in length, primarily vanilla and raisins, with the initial smoked oily fish note reappearing at the very end. A few drops of water in this 46% ABV dram revealed more fruity character while maintaining its oiliness and richness. The finish also gained more citrus and apricot notes. Overall, this is a very intricate and exceptionally smooth dram, well worth the cost to try. I purchased this bottle at Costco for $139 (375ml).

About this bottle
Dewar's Double Double 32 Year is a blended Scotch whisky developed by master blender Stephanie Macleod. It undergoes a "four stage aging process." Initially, single malts and single grains, each aged for a minimum of 32 years, are matured separately. These are then blended and rested in exhausted casks, first individually for the single malts and then for the single grains. Subsequently, the blended single malts and blended single grains are combined and rested again in exhausted casks. The final stage involves finishing the blended Scotch in sherry casks. For the 32-year expression, the finish is in ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.

This rating is a posthumous addition... I finished a bottle of this with companions during a blind tasting of lower-tier spirits, and this was the concluding 'prize.' At $150 for 375 ml, it was one of the most expensive pours I've ever had... The aroma is complex, with evident smoke, leather, orange marmalade, and sherry, and the PX influence is noticeable in the flavor. It's smoky but not overwhelming, with tobacco, more leather, and dark fruit on the palate. It's easy to drink—smooth yet rich. Was it good? Absolutely! Was it great? Marginally... It's hard to justify this price given other options, but if you seek an experience, this delivers one!
I'm surprised this only scored an 88. This isn't just whisky; it's an experience. The way the deep malt and fruit notes combine is hard to put into words, and its age is remarkably evident. Although the price was a tough sell initially, I'm thrilled I bought a bottle after tasting it. Absolutely superb.
This is truly remarkable. It possesses the aged oak character of a well-matured scotch and deep, rich sherry notes. An incredible combination that truly surpasses my expectations. If you can still find it, definitely get a bottle.
