About this bottle

Código 1530 Artesanal Mezcal is crafted in Oaxaca's San Juan del Rio area from Espadín and Tobala agave. The agave is roasted in an earthen oven, crushed using a tahona pulled by a burro, and distilled in a copper alambique still. Following a rest in Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc barrels, it is bottled at 42.2% ABV and became available in October 2021.

Miguel Darling 3.5

The nose is rich and fruity, with earthy, minty, cooked agave, grilled pineapple, and wood notes, alongside considerable mineral stone and char. Actual smoke is quite subtle, and the Sauvignon Blanc influence is barely detectable. The palate is heavy on minerality and char. A peppery spice runs throughout, complemented by wood smoke, mint, ash, green agave, and traces of earth. I don't detect much heat, but the spiciness persists through the finish of concrete and charred wood. Overall, I enjoy it. It lacks the sweetness, smokiness, or richness of many excellent joven spirits, but it possesses its own unique qualities.

Renata Vigil 3.8

Lemon, citrus, herbal, earthy, oak, butterscotch, and a smoky finish. Clay, minerals, and not overly sweet. I suspect scotch enthusiasts would appreciate this one.
