About this bottle

Homère Clément founded Habitation Clément during a period when Martinique's sugar industry was in decline, demonstrating foresight. Centuries later, this legacy includes the Select Barrel rhum agricole. Its name comes from the French oak barrels individually selected by the cellar master for their unique qualities, which combine to form the final spirit. The rhum undergoes three years of maturation in these casks.

Nathaniel Alonzo 3.5

A distinctly different style of rum. It certainly has more vegetal notes, but I wouldn't consider that a negative in any way. It possesses sufficient sweetness to be pleasing but is by no means excessively sweet. I'm intrigued and eager to try other Rhum Agricole products. On a side note, I truly admire the bottle design. It exudes class and even conceals the screw top well enough not to bother me (though I would have preferred a cork). Excellent work on the aesthetics. It also showcases the rum's appealing color very effectively.

I continued to sip and sip and sip... *hiccup*... and it wasn't until my girlfriend called it "a fine dram" that I realized. Very scotch-like, similar to Glenmorangie (which I find bitter and sharp), specifically, but the floral notes in this scotch are replaced by a different flower, less bright and warmer. It's not my first choice for sipping; it makes an excellent Mai Tai or other cocktail where the rum (rhum) can be the star.

Lizzie Westmoreland 4.0

Absolutely delightful. The nose presents notes of pine, earth, vanilla, and baking spices. Vanilla, some warmth, vegetal notes, vanilla again, baking spices, and oak coat the palate. The warmth lingers slightly, though the finish is generally quite smooth. My initial experience with Rhum Agricole, and I am thoroughly impressed.

Ervin Putnam 2.0

Hints of orange peel and banana, with a strong grassy flavor that borders on moldy bread. Has a sharp alcohol burn.

Maxine Wolff 2.3

Smell: Banana, other fruit notes I can't quite place. Taste: Spearmint, a little bitter. Ending: Zesty, dry.

Yadira Greenwood 3.8

Very complex rum, excellent for sipping. Perfect balance of traditional sweet flavors and earthy notes.
