Clear Creek Douglas Fir Brandy is one of the more intriguing brandies available. It's certainly not an essential purchase, but it performs quite well in cocktails in small quantities. I hadn't tried it on its own, so while I didn't have high hopes, I was pleasantly surprised. Immediately upon smelling it, you get the pine and winter aromas. That also comes through on the first sip, where you feel transported to a forest, with notes of mint and pine needles. Methanol lingers on the finish with just a touch of warmth. I wouldn't necessarily say this is great neat, but it was an interesting departure from typical brandies. I can imagine this being a nice change of pace for a winter sipper, but the main reason to acquire this bottle, in my opinion, is its use in cocktails. It adds complexity to a good number of winter-style cocktails. It is a bit pricey, and for something you'll likely not drink a lot of neat, nor use extensively in cocktails, I can see why someone might pass on it, but it is unique and well-crafted.

About this bottle
Clear Creek Douglas Fir Brandy is a limited-release product made by gathering young Douglas fir buds (also known as Oregon pine or Douglas spruce). These buds are placed in clear brandy to macerate. The resulting green brandy is then re-distilled, which clarifies the spirit while retaining the flavor. More buds are added for a second maceration period, and they are removed after a few weeks. A small amount of pear brandy is added before the 375ml bottles are filled.
