Next on the agave journey is the Glen Fiddicho...Cazadores. My first experience with this brand and also my first extra anejo, though the Maestro Dobel I just had contained some extra anejo. Let's see how the valley of the deer performs south of the border. Smell: Notes of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and a bit of oak. The barest hint of agave. It smells like bourbon with a few drops of tequila spilled into it. Taste: Sweet and fiery, with more cinnamon and burnt caramel. Finish: Pungent and robust but disappears quickly. It tastes more like rye than bourbon or tequila at this stage. It's an intriguing one. The taste is pleasant, but the agave is overshadowed by the oak aging, which seems to miss the point somewhat. It's a nice fusion of Mexico and America. Like a Home Depot parking lot in a glass.

About this bottle
Cazadores Extra Añejo is crafted from 100% agave sourced from the Highlands of Jalisco. Following a double fermentation in stainless steel, this tequila matures for three years in new American oak barrels. The name "Cazadores," meaning "hunters," originates from the founder's grandfather, José María Bañuelos, who enjoyed observing deer among the agave fields.

I got this bottle because I prefer my tequilas a bit sweeter. This is definitely a tequila for those who enjoy bourbon. The three years of aging in American oak barrels are quite noticeable. The distiller's tasting notes and flavor profile for this tequila are accurate. However, there's a pleasant spice during sipping that somewhat tempers the sweetness.
Aroma: Vanilla cream, cinnamon, oak with a whiskey-like character, possibly a hint of malt? The agave becomes more apparent as it rests in the glass. Salted caramel, green apple. Palate: Rich, vanilla, subtle agave notes. Caramel. Mild cooked fruit. The agave flavor intensifies with each sip. Baking spices. Finish: Agave, mild earthy notes. Gentle oak.
Smoky with undertones of vanilla. A robust agave aroma. It goes down exceptionally smoothly. My initial experience with an extra añejo, and it won't be my last.
A friend recommended this for those who enjoy bourbon.
Acceptable, but a significant burn as it goes down.
