Sampled neat and in a "perfect serve" G&T (for this spirit, the producer suggests a red apple slice). Neat: A crisp, fragrant aroma with clear pine notes, some citrus, and a touch of sweetness; the taste is polished, full-bodied, and invigorating, with botanicals that are quite pronounced, striking an excellent equilibrium between bitter and sweet, and where the apple and rowan berry are pleasantly noticeable; the finish is medium-length, bracing, and aromatic. "Perfect serve": The red apple truly complements the apple notes in the spirit, bringing the heather's honeyed character to the forefront. I used a lightly-flavored tonic water and now regret it; I'm curious to see how it performs with something a bit bolder. Overall, it's not an exceptionally distinctive spirit (certainly not as unique as its promotion suggests), but it is very well-crafted and enjoyable to sip even by itself. I would suggest serving it with apple if you plan to make a G&T; it's not merely a gimmick, the G&T actually tastes better with it. I also found that ice slightly dilutes it, so chill responsibly.

About this bottle
Caorunn Gin is produced at Scotland's Balmenach Distillery, one of the first distilleries licensed for Scotch whisky production. Named after the Gaelic term for "rowan berry," a botanical used in its creation, Caorunn (pronounced Ka-roon) gin combines traditional gin botanicals—juniper berries, coriander seeds, orange peel, lemon peel, angelica root, and cassia bark—with botanicals handpicked from the Scottish Highlands: rowan berry, bog myrtle, heather, coul blush apple, and dandelion leaf. These botanicals are vapor-infused into the neutral spirit within a distinctive copper berry chamber, a round horizontal chamber featuring four large copper trays holding the botanicals, to create the final product.

We thought this was a tasty gin! It's very smooth, enjoyable neat and on ice. The botanicals are pleasant but a bit muted. The distinct flavors combine well, though it does lean towards a classic gin profile.
I didn't care for it neat: the aroma seemed purely ethanol, with a sweet fruity taste, perhaps mango? However, it's a fantastic mixing gin. It's one of my top choices for a martini or white lady.
It's a well-crafted gin that makes a good gin and tonic, but it's rather subtle. Personally, I prefer gins with more prominent botanical notes. This one can easily be diluted if too much ice is added.
Quite smooth. Creamy, with a very slight oily texture. Exhibits juniper and floral notes, possibly including dandelion. Comparable in quality to Bulldog, but less light and brightly floral. Priced at $50 in Ontario.
Slightly sweet, pine and apple (the suggested garnish). Smooth initially, with a slight drop-off in the finish and aftertaste. Reasonable price at around £24 a bottle. Easily found.
