A gin from the Netherlands, yes I couldn't resist, this one is really asking for a taste. Smell: Honeysuckle! Yes, it's noticeable, along with some peculiar citrus, perhaps kumquat, not quite like Rampur but similar. While I enjoy the aroma, drinking it straight is too sugary. This one will be excessively sweet, but I have some Fever Tree tonic with angostura bark on hand, and to enhance it, some Fever Tree pink grapefruit, it's almost as if the people at Fever Tree anticipated me! Mixing it 1 to 1 with just a couple of splashes of the grapefruit. Now that's a really nice pink gin and tonic. I'm not sure what to say about the Damrak, it is truly TOO SWEET for my preference, however, it can be mixed into a rather pleasant drink. The sweetness requires significant dilution, which is somewhat regrettable as the honeysuckle is nearly lost in the mix. I chilled mine with a few small ice cubes. Now I feel like going out and jumping in my Spitfire and shooting down some Messerschmitts. Cheers everyone!

About this bottle
Lucas Bols, a Dutch spirits producer, created Damrak Gin after discovering a forgotten recipe at their distillery. The base spirit for this gin is derived from Curaçao orange peel and seventeen botanicals, including Valencia orange, coriander seed, lavender, cinnamon, and lemon peel. Juniper is also present, though in smaller quantities. Damrak Gin is bottled at 41.8% ABV.

I have a vague recollection of mixing this with gin for "Death in the Gulf Stream" cocktails one afternoon. From what I recall, the gin held up well—unfortunately, I didn't. Oof. Anyway, this is a decent and affordable Dutch gin if you're aiming for a Hemingway-esque experience, or at least aiming to drink like him.
Some juniper, but orange is the main flavor.
