Ronald Murillo 3.0

This offering is quite bold and flavorful, though some of its intensity and tastes aren't entirely to my liking. The aroma is tart, even sour apples, bordering on apple cider vinegar. The flavor is rather sharp, with only a hint of sweetness initially, then shifting into a tingly, tangy apple taste. The finish leaves you with that tingly sensation, faint spices, and noticeable but not overwhelming bitterness. There's no age statement on this. It seems young to me, but I'm not entirely sure. It has a brash character, with the flavor arriving strong and punchy. That certainly has its appeal, but I find those flavors lean a bit more toward the sour and bitter spectrum than I prefer. This isn't to say the overall taste is sour or bitter, but those elements are present. I've only tried one other calvados, but this one has less of the softer baked-apple notes and more of the tart-apple notes, and I think I prefer the former. The price was quite affordable for a calvados at $35. I've enjoyed the bottle and consider it a good value, but I'll likely explore different calvados (or other apple brandies) in the future rather than repurchase this one.
