This Coquerel Fine is a standard, unremarkable Calvados. It's heavily apple-forward and rather young. I'd classify this more as a mixer's Calvados than one for sipping neat, though surely there are far worse options available. The aroma is very reminiscent of whiskey, with oak being dominant. On the palate, I detected notes of clove, honey, and vanilla, with a subtle apple undertone. The finish is brief and carries a slight burn, which isn't unexpected given the spirit's youth. As a cocktail component, I'd rate it around a 3, but neat it's closer to a 2, hence the overall 2.5 rating. It's not bad, just not exciting, and might appeal more to someone who usually drinks whiskey.

About this bottle
Normandy has been renowned for its apples for millennia, with ancient Gallic legends attributing the planting of the first orchards to Venus. Calvados is thought to have originated in the 16th century when cider producers began experimenting with distillation. The name is believed to derive from the Spanish Armada ship "El Calvador," which wrecked in Normandy in 1588. Domaine du Coquerel, located near Mont Saint Michel, was established in 1937. Producing a 750ml bottle of Coquerel requires over 13 pounds of apples. Coquerel Fine is a mixture of Calvados aged for at least 2 years.
