About this bottle

James Buchanan, born in Canada, created Buchanan's in 1884 to offer an affordable entry-level blended Scotch. This brand has since achieved global recognition and is particularly popular in South American nations such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela, as well as in Mexico. Buchanan's is considered an excellent starting point for those new to Scotch whisky, featuring rich cocoa notes and a complex, inviting flavor profile without harsh peat smoke.

This is an unexpectedly excellent value blend! They claim it contains malts from all of Scotland's regions, and you can really tell. It starts with a bit of smoke and herbs, smoothly shifting to fruit and flowers, with a subtle sherry note at the end. The finish is a little brief but smooth. Higher alcohol content would have made it more intriguing. The grain is so well-aged it genuinely resembles a blended malt. It's said this used to have a 15-year age statement before being repackaged in 2015. The official Buchanan's website now lists it as 12 years old. Regardless, I'm very happy to have found this scotch, and it's now among my top choices. It's Scotland in a bottle!

An excellent blended scotch, so complex it simplifies the tasting and nosing experience. The aroma offers notes of chocolate, cream, vanilla, coffee, and orange. It presents a pleasant spiciness on the palate, along with caramel, wood, vanilla, banana, and coffee flavors. The finish is long and very enjoyable. After trying many blended whiskies, I believe Buchanan's offers the best choices and is a top-tier household selection. There's also a hint of peat present. It's among the finest whiskies available.

Lately, I've been exploring premium blended scotches. After the letdown of Johnnie Walker 18, this is a truly pleasant surprise. The aroma is sweet, with notes of sweet fruit, almost like caramelized apple. The mouthfeel is sweet and oily, with a touch of smoke on the finish. I'd share this with friends who don't drink scotch to try and get them into the hobby. I may have found my favorite blend. The price is also reasonable.

While I don't typically opt for blended scotches, this one is quite good. It's very smooth and easy to drink, featuring flavors of chocolate-covered fruit with a subtle hint of smoke. It's a great blend to keep on hand, as I suspect it would appeal to a wide range of scotch enthusiasts.

The aroma presents distinct notes of musk, cream, and grain. These sensations vanish upon tasting, replaced by lemon cake with dehydrated berries. The finish is rich with caramel.

Braylon Dickson 4.5

This blend comes in at 80 proof and costs $38.99 before tax, or $41.13 with it. It features flavors of nuts, toasted caramel, peat, pineapple, apple, sugar, lemon, roasted barley, scorched banana, molasses, buttery popcorn, oak, and honey.
