This is excellent, far superior to merely 'good'. The presentation is striking, unless you're drawn to liquor in skull-shaped bottles, in which case you're a connoisseur and this platform is beneath you. The flavor is genuinely commendable, the kind that could convert someone to Mezcal. Its characteristics? It's definitely smoky with a distinct tobacco aroma. It's also complex, without an overwhelming alcohol presence despite being 47%. It finishes with a touch of sweetness and slight tang. In summary: if you're contemplating it on the shelf, purchase it and enjoy, my friend!

About this bottle
Bozal Mezcals, distributed by 3 Badge Mixology, are crafted using ancestral methods from wild, indigenous agaves native to Oaxaca and Guerrero. Tobasiche, a variety within the Karwinskii Family of agaves, requires 12 to 13 years for full maturity and harvest. Production takes place at a facility in San Baltazar, Oaxaca. The agave hearts are cooked in underground pit ovens, milled with a horse-drawn tehona, and subjected to double distillation in copper pot stills before being bottled at 47% ABV.

It offers a minty character with hints of green apple and bing cherry. There's a subtle Sichuan peppercorn presence, though it's mild. A strong vegetal bitterness, akin to Band-Aids, is noticeable, but it's less intense than in the Alipus San Miguel Sola. Overall, this spirit lacks that signature smoky mezcal essence and doesn't compensate with other notable flavors. It's not particularly engaging, leading me to prefer not to consume it.
A well-rounded Mezcal from NOM-O363X made with wild Tobasiche, an agave that requires 12 to 13 years to mature; cultivated on the steep hillsides of Oaxaca & Guerrero, Mexico. It begins with a full body and hints of quince, anise, & agave; its complex middle presents notes of exotic herbs, agave, & savory smoke; concluding with a gentle & balanced finish carrying notes of cedar & rich earthy minerality. I sampled this during a first date and, lacking the manners to take notes then, I can say from memory that I was greatly impressed. It offered rich notes of roasted green and yellow peppers, nopal, leading to a smoky, earthy, and mineral-driven profile. The minerality imparted a slight grittiness that created an incredible mouthfeel. I'm developing a strong appreciation for agave karwinskii.
This is certainly a personal favorite. Made from a single type of Agave (karwinskii), this Mezcal guides you through a spectrum of flavors with every sip. It's a full-bodied mezcal that is consistently enjoyable.
Aromas are fruity but saltiness dominates the palate initially. Then some smoke and light citrus fruit appear, with a briny finish, as expected from Tobasiche. An excellent value 94
