I obtained this bottle in Panzano a very long time ago after the wine shop owner patiently and eloquently explained grappa and its various styles in Italian. (Heads up - I don't speak Italian, yet I understood him perfectly). I've really enjoyed this random purchase and am almost finished, so I decided to record my impressions. A mix of red and white grape varieties. It appears as a very pale yellow in the glass. Slightly oily with closely spaced legs. The aroma has pomace, modeling clay, dry grain husks, and a hint of plum. It also has a touch of cleaning fluid. No ethanol smell. A gentle simple syrup coats the tongue but it's not overly sweet. A quick drying astringency sets in with quince, grape skins, a pleasant bitterness, and a chalky sensation. More plum notes are present. The finish is short, consisting mainly of the astringency and a simple sugar taste. Generally, grappa is far from my preferred spirit, but I've found myself enjoying, and at times wanting, this one. It's quite easy to approach.
