Aroma: Light, sweet spice and herbal notes of juniper, citrus, cardamom, cumin, and orris root, all overlaid with a malty new-make whisky scent typical of genever. Palate: Sweet and mildly spicy with seed spices, soft anise, pepper, and hints of vanilla, caramel, and malt extract. The texture is excellently rich and full. Finish: Medium/Long with caramel, spice, vanilla, and malt. This is a delicious oude genever, one of the best tried. It lacks the pine aroma found in some others and the brine note some genever shows, making the nose sweet and cozy. The palate is silky and oily, veering towards sweetness with a distinct caramel tinge. Genever, the ancestor of gin, is a vibrant spirit with more complexity than dry gin. It's excellent in cocktails, especially classic ones from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and can be used in a G&T instead of gin. Highly Recommended: 86/100 (4 stars).
