Barrell Craft Spirits has launched a Private Release Whiskey Series, comprising 24 batches of Kentucky whiskey subjected to a secondary cask finish. The oldest whiskey in these batches is 18 years old. Approximately 150-180 bottles are produced per batch, all bottled at cask strength. Batch AH21 was finished in a rhum agricole cask. The nose has light spice and candied apricots. Caribbean spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice are present at the front of the palate. The finish has a bit of bright, spicy molasses. It's very unlike any other finished bourbon I've ever experienced. I was anticipating something similar to Angel's Envy Rye finished in a Rum Barrel, but this is remarkably bolder and has a more unusual flavor profile.
