Finished in a Tokaji barrel, this Hungarian Fair release from Joe's Playlist #1 offers a sweet and rich aroma with hints of dessert wine. While unfamiliar with Tokay wine, I understand it's a sweet white wine. After several minutes, fruit notes emerge, possibly a touch of rubber, and strong maple syrup. The palate is initially thick, then seems to fade. Flavors of clove, some cacao nibs, salt, underlying sweetness, and a nutty finish with a hint of bitter walnut appear. The spice quickly dissipates, resulting in a short finish, though the warmth in the chest lingers. This is its most notable characteristic; it warms you nicely without being overly hot on the tongue, providing a pleasant Kentucky hug. It's a simple, enjoyable sipper. (7/7/2020)
