About this bottle

This limited edition from Amador Whiskey Co. and Charbay Distillery in St. Helena, California, involves a two-stage aging process. A blend of 60% straight malt whiskey and 40% hop-flavored whiskey (made from IPA beer) is aged for at least two years in French oak wine barrels, followed by another two years in Chardonnay barrels. Amador Whiskey Co. is owned by Trinchero Family Estates, which provides the Chardonnay barrels from Napa Valley.

This is one of the most peculiar bourbons I've ever encountered. The aroma was wonderful, featuring vanilla, caramel, and an unidentifiable note. The taste isn't overpowering, but the finish is what made it so unusual. It was akin to a coffee and toffee IPA. I would have believed someone if they told me I was drinking a very strong coffee IPA. I would not purchase this bottle, as it's not something I typically drink. The aroma later shifted to smelling like an IPA with coffee undertones. A curious yet interesting dram.

Lynette Cramer 2.5

Distinctive taste. The IPA's hops really stand out on both the nose and the tongue. Floral hints from the Chardonnay casks are just as strong, staying with you until the very end. Vanilla and honeysuckle drift in and out. This isn't standard whiskey, and it's definitely not for all tastes. An ice cube is suggested.

Wonderful caramel toffee notes with some chocolate. Great hot Caramel sauce with ginger so finish. Can’t detect any heat on the palate until after you’ve swallowed.

Kristal Whitt 4.5

A well-made and balanced whiskey. The aroma on the nose is great, with vanilla and caramel flavors. While it is pricey, I believe it's worth the cost.

So fascinating. You'd truly believe this was a very potent IPA. Still, quite pleasing.

Amador Single Barrel - or at least, that's what I thought the bottle indicated. Picked it up at STL airport. Thank you!
