Yamazaki Puncheon 2013

A well-rounded spirit from the Yamazaki distillery, aged in Puncheon casks. A Hoggie holds 230 liters, while the larger Puncheon contains 480 liters. This slower maturation in the Puncheon allows this Yamazaki single malt Japanese whisky to gradually absorb cask character. It begins with notes of strawberry, elderflower, sandalwood, vanilla bean, caramel, a touch of buttered rye bread, grass, and white peach. The mid-palate introduces pineapple, sultana, plum, floral oak, a hint of cigar box, and fudge. It concludes with a lengthy and warming finish featuring white grape, green apple, pear, barley, and a whisper of spicy cinnamon. December 2017 / August 2018 / March 2019 / July 2022

It has an oily texture, but otherwise, it's flawless. The sherry aroma is superb.
