About this bottle

Gin de Mahón is a specific type of gin exclusive to the Spanish island of Menorca. Xoriguer, meaning "windmill" in Catalan and named by the founder after his family's windmill, is produced using a direct-fire copper pot still. Juniper is added, and the spirit undergoes a two-year aging period near the harbor. The gin's base is derived from wine made with parellada and xarel-lo grapes from the Penedès region, renowned for its cava. Key production details and ingredients are kept as a closely guarded family secret. Xoriguer Gin de Mahón is matured in American oak barrels prior to bottling, at 41% ABV in the United States and 38% elsewhere.

Straight up: The aromas are initially very juniper forward, but floral notes and lemongrass quickly kick in. It's very pleasant and approachable with little alcohol burn. On the palate, it again started with juniper, followed by some grassy and citrus notes. The texture is more oily and richer than most gins. Mandarin orange surprisingly emerges during the finish with some pepper and citrus in the background. With fever tree tonic: A great combination. The fruity and slightly grassy flavors blend perfectly with the tonic for a pleasant and refreshing long drink. The overall sweetness increases, highlighting the fruity flavors more. At USD40 per liter, this is a great addition to any bar.

Served: Neat Bottle Opened: Same Day Smell: Crushed juniper berries. Citrus rinds (mostly lemon, with subtle grapefruit/orange undertones) and a hint of earthiness. Taste: Begins with citrus, moves to powdery and savory juniper berry in the middle, and finishes clean with a bitter edge. Overall, very much like a London dry gin, but with a cleaner start and a more bitter finish.

Karson Jasso 4.5

It’s a London Dry style, but it has a really distinct character. The bottle looks great too, and it has a little loop for carrying it to a party.

Damian Betts 4.0

Served neat in a flute. Opened 2 months ago. The nose is primarily juniper with a hint of citrus. The palate offers powdery juniper and feels very vibrant in the mouth.

Colt Rosenberg 3.8

A gin dominated by juniper and pine. It has a subtle roundness with a very floral and vegetal finish. An excellent gin for a Gin and Tonic.

Emilia Pederson 4.5

Enjoyable neat and mixed with Fever Tree Naturally Light. Juniper notes are prominent, and it finishes a bit sweet with the juniper lingering.
