About this bottle

The 2019 iteration of Wyoming Whiskey's Outryder is a 7-year-old expression, distilled in the fall of 2011. This offering is a marriage of two whiskeys with distinct mash bills: one comprising 48% rye, 40% corn, and 12% malted barley; the other containing 68% corn, 20% rye, and 12% malted barley. These are combined and then reduced to 100 proof.

Meaghan Dewey 4.5

It took me two months to gather the courage to purchase this bottle at $80. A store employee even tried to dissuade me once, but my fascination was already engaged. My hopes were admittedly nearly unattainable. And they were met. This is quality stuff. It's like a bourbon sandwich between two slices of marble rye bread. The familiar rye spice immediately hits the mouth but then quickly softens to warm vanilla, oak, and sweet dough. The rye gradually reappears for a pleasant, clean spicy finish, and finally, a cooling mint sensation. I feel like I'm on the frontier, sipping from a flask at the dawn of the 20th century. The only thing I dislike more than its $80 price is the certainty that I will buy it again.

I have always liked the Outryder releases. Spice from rye, dill, vanilla, honey, and sweet dough notes. Enjoyable equilibrium between the mashbills. Pleasant, lasting finish.

Among Wyoming's finest offerings.
