About this bottle

Woodinville's Moscatel Finished Bourbon starts with their standard straight bourbon, which is produced using 100% locally sourced grains. For the final stage of maturation, it is placed into 10-year-old 200-gallon Moscatel de Setúbal barrels, a Portuguese fortified wine. Woodinville offered a limited, distillery-only version of this bottling as the 2021 Harvest Release. This expression became available in September 2022 as a limited edition in 23 US markets for $99.99.

Zechariah Logan 3.0

Nose - very dark red fruit forward. Cherry pie, red grapes, youthful graininess. Taste - Bitter grape skins, raisin, and a hint of tobacco. Finish - Long finish, pepper, tea, and more berry notes. This is an unusual one. The moscatel finish is doing most of the work, and the whiskey doesn't really stand out. I perceive a lot of youthful characteristics that the finish can't mask. It didn't live up to the anticipation.

Unfortunately, a very uninspired finished whiskey. There was a lot of buzz about this one, so I was eager to find it at a local shop. A hundred dollars that could have been spent on something superior. I did appreciate the cask strength (59.3%) 100% Rye store pick. That bottle was worth the sixty-five dollar price.
