About this bottle

Part of the brand's Very Rare Casks series, Teeling 32 Year Purple Muscat Finish is an exclusive US offering, a first for this collection. This single malt was distilled in 1990 and initially aged in ex-bourbon barrels for 28 years. Master Distiller Alex Chasko then chose a single French oak Portuguese purple muscat wine cask for its secondary maturation. Limited to 283 bottles, this whiskey was available in November 2022 at retailers in CA, NV, TX, IL, NY, MA, and FL for $3499.99.

Got to sample this amazing scotch alongside a master distiller this week. The aroma is a rich collection of mango, apricot jam, and figs. Each taste is like a concentrated fruit nectar, thick and syrupy, with a lingering taste of more apricots. I adore the tropical and stone fruit character of older Cooley scotches bottled by Teeling and this one ranks among the best. It's hard to pinpoint the muscat cask's impact from my small pour, but whatever it contributes is clearly a plus.

The aroma is rich with berry fruits, warm caramel, and a hint of vanilla bean. The flavors erupt in the mouth with a wave of grape that never overpowers but instead supports and blends with the malted barley. For such an extended aging period, it possesses considerable character. The higher proof contributes by revealing the more subtle qualities of an older Irish whiskey. The mouthfeel is smooth and consistent across the palate, and the finish lingers with just a touch of the Muscat at the end. Very flavorful, expertly crafted, and quite rare.
