Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Four Wood Bourbon

This assessment comes from a two-ounce pour I obtained. Unfortunately, I doubt I will ever purchase a bottle. It seems Woodford has not made the four wood expression in a long time, and the limited bottles I found were priced over $400. While that cost is unjustifiable for me, I would have happily paid the initial price of approximately $90. To begin, I usually don't dedicate much attention to examining whiskeys (a point that resonates with me whenever I read a critique from a fellow enthusiast). However, the visual appeal of this spirit was undeniable; it's a stunning deep amber. The aroma presents a pleasing combination of fruit and caramel, complemented by a delightful dark chocolate scent. The taste is where the experience truly unfolds. It possesses the ideal level of warmth and dry spice, occasionally evoking cinnamon and at other moments offering a flavor I can only liken to a wine-soaked radish (which, despite its description, is quite enjoyable). Vanilla and caramel notes are also apparent, alongside the distinct dark chocolate presence. The finish leaves a lasting impression with a subtle, earthy spice. Woodford's standard products have generally pleased me, though they've never amazed me. Yet, even if I can't get my hands on the four wood, this bottling has motivated me to explore Woodford's range more deeply, especially their special releases.

My first genuine attempt at a bourbon, and it's a remarkable beginning. An exquisite, intricate aroma of vanilla, citrus, and smoke. The palate presents tobacco and tanned leather, unfolding into orchards and citrus. It transports your senses to the South, evoking the feeling of sitting on a front porch in the evening sun.

Despite the widespread praise, this was a letdown for me. The sherry's oxidized aromas and flavors diminished the overall profile, in my opinion. While I know many others enjoyed this, I didn't find it remotely worth the price for the novelty.

A solid bourbon for enjoying neat, the taste of Woodford Reserve (corn whisky) is very apparent. Among the sweeter, more fragrant bourbons I have experienced.

My preferred bottling from the master distiller collection. Abundant caramel and barrel complexities. I regret not purchasing more bottles of this.

Sweet caramel notes, with a hint of mellow charred oak. It glides on the palate, with a mild burn as it goes down.
