Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Double Double Oaked Bourbon (Summer 2015)

I'm somewhat surprised by the expert's assessment because I found my experience with this quite magical. Sampled at a tasting event, it managed to stand out among numerous other quality bourbons. I really enjoyed its smooth, delicate chocolate notes, reminiscent of dark cacao tea with a touch of brown sugar. The mouthfeel also had an interesting chalkiness that was quite pleasing. It earns high marks for its distinctiveness, silky texture, and clear refinement.

Minimal aroma, possessing a more generic whiskey scent. It offers a fruity and floral taste as it goes down, with a subtle caramel note lingering in the throat. There's a warmth in the stomach, but it's not spicy during consumption.

The oak aroma is very pronounced (obviously). It's spicier than the standard WR. The additional heavy oak treatment contributes to this. Leathery vanilla coats the tongue, but it's not as smooth as the double oaked version. The lengthy finish lingers considerably on the palate.

Smoky, oaky with a touch of sweetness. Dry. Avoid drinking it immediately after a sweeter bourbon/blend, as it diminishes the enjoyment of the bourbon.

Toasted, like maple syrup and chestnuts. Perfect for sipping after a meal. Delightful. Purchased Sept 2015 at the Woodford Distillery

One glass is almost too much. The oak flavor is overwhelming. I'll likely let friends try this one.
