This is my first experience with a Woodford Reserve distillery series release outside of the Master's Collection and Batch Proof offerings. Enjoyed neat. Nose: Notes of toasted marshmallow, peanuts, buttercream, and hints of caramel and cinnamon. Palate: Buttercream and whipped vanilla icing are present at the front. Cinnamon and peanuts appear in the middle. There's a slight oak dryness at the end, along with a malty note. I had hoped for a flavor closer to a chocolate Whopper, but it just tastes malty on its own. Finish: The finish is subdued and short, with lingering notes of marshmallow, caramel, and baking spice/cinnamon. Overall impressions: I consider myself a supporter of Woodford Reserve products. I've had instances where I enjoyed this bottle more than I did this time. It's not my top choice among the offerings I've tried, but I still found it enjoyable.

The Woodford Reserve Toasted Oak Four Grain is a limited edition within the Distillery Series. It features a combination of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Rye, Wheat, and Malt whiskeys, all initially aged in standard new oak barrels before a secondary maturation in heavily-toasted new oak barrels. This bottling is notable as the first to bear Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall's name since she assumed the role from Chris Morris, now the brand's Master Distiller Emeritus, in January 2023. It can be purchased in limited quantities at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and select Kentucky retailers starting September 28, 2023. (SRP $59.99 - 375ml)

Nose: A big, sweet overall aroma, with notes of chewy caramel transitioning into a rich vanilla, and then rye and malt playing back and forth with cinnamon and a malted milk ball (Whoppers candy) flavor. It comes across as very rich. Palate: Rich, sweet notes of toffee and vanilla that abruptly shift to something reminiscent of a hazy IPA. Big citrus and an almost hop-like character. Finish: The rye reappears with a prominent vanilla note. You experience the four grains in a strongly sweet manner.
