This limited edition release, announced in summer 2018 as part of Woodford Reserve's Distillery Series, starts with the brand's standard rye whiskey. It then undergoes a secondary maturation in a specially constructed new American oak barrel that is lightly charred and heavily toasted. Available in 375ml bottles at the distillery and select Kentucky retailers, it is bottled at 45.2% ABV.

Nose: Butterscotch, Vanilla, Charred meats, Brown sugar, Marjoram, Dried Marshmallow, Rye spice (allspice, fennel). Taste: Very wood-forward, Sweet tea, Melted caramel. The taste is extremely unpleasant. It's like drinking sugar water that had freshly toasted wood chips soaking in it for a week. I'm pleased the distillery conducts these experiments, but I believe this one should be shelved.
