About this bottle
This yearly offering from Buffalo Trace pays tribute to W.L. Weller, a distiller from the 1800s recognized for substituting wheat for rye in his mash bill, thereby initiating the "wheated bourbon" trend. This particular bottling was produced in the spring of 2003 and matured on the second and sixth levels of Warehouses I, K, and L. Reaching 134.6 proof, it represents one of its most robust presentations.

My unicorn! Intense heat, intense heat, and even more heat. Adding water unlocks delicious chocolate, vanilla, and cherry notes. It's a powerful spirit for leisurely sipping.
The aroma is reminiscent of applesauce. It's very potent, yet amazing. The mid-palate is quite smooth, with more noticeable fruitiness, in my view. The finish is short. Delicious.
A sweet vanilla and caramel scent, smooth on the palate. Remarkably well-balanced due to the proof, sweetness, and depth. Quite possibly my most preferred bourbon ever.
Quite good. Tasted alongside several other notable spirits, and this was the least preferred. It has a pleasant wheat flavor towards the end of the palate.
Hearty, flavorful, and spirited due to the alcohol content. Bold notes of caramel and vanilla, along with a hint of cinnamon. This pour costs $38, but it's likely justified.
