Armorik Sherry Finish Single Malt

The aroma begins with a Twix candy bar dipped in sherry, followed by buttermilk biscuits with heavily peppered gravy, then toasted walnuts, freeze-dried grape flavors, baked apple, and orange creamsicle, transitioning to cloves, light leather, and polished oak with a mild ethanol burn. The taste presents a thin mouthfeel, starting with creamy butterscotch pudding and stewed orchard fruits before quickly shifting to a medium-spicy dark chocolate mocha that gradually fades to toasted walnuts, prune flavors, baked apple pie, and orange zest, then transitioning to cloves, light leather, and moderately ashy oak with a medium ethanol burn. The finish is medium in length, featuring dark chocolate, musty grape, grapefruit, burnt walnuts, mild sulfur, cloves, and lightly ashy oak. This is a very enjoyable whiskey that successfully blended the sherry and bourbon casks, but it's slightly spicier on the palate than I would prefer, and the 40% ABV diminishes those fruity flavors. I like this considerably more than the other French whiskey I've tried from Brenne, and I believe with a higher ABV and some age, it could become something exceptional. Long live French whiskey, and what a fantastic find! The thing about sherry is that it isn't unlike a hairpiece. If you have a full head of hair and use a hairpiece as extensions, the finished look is natural and seamless. But if you're bald and walking around with a toupee... you're only fooling yourself. Point is: this is a great whiskey because the new-made spirit was well-crafted before aging, and you can tell. The sherry... just a wonderful bonus. From start to finish, both the nose and palate are complex and delicious with expected fruity notes, and the finish is smooth and long. Bravo!

Long live France! My first French whiskey (you never forget your first, right?). Courtesy of a friend. This I believe comes from Brittany, where the local dialect is distinctly non-standard French and the distance to the UK is just a tunnel ride away. It's also where crepes originated, so that's a good sign. Aromas of hazelnuts and raisins. The palate is more nutty and features dark berries, with almost Christmas-like spices. I wish this had more time to age; I plan to purchase this once it has a mature age statement. Thanks, friend!

I wanted to sample some French whiskey while in France. Armorik was a brand I had looked for, but it was somewhat challenging to locate. The nose offers cinnamon raisins and vanilla, hinting at gingerbread. The palate is peppery and warm with a pleasant mouthfeel. The finish is where this whiskey truly stands out. At 46% ABV, it lingers and presents flavors of nuts, candied oranges, chocolate, and pepper. It's difficult to fully appreciate all the flavors this has to offer from a disposable hotel cup.

This delightful spirit greets you with an appealing blend of apricots, leather, tobacco, and sherry on the nose. The palate offers a gentle mix of raisins, walnuts, roasted coffee, and a touch of citrus. The finish is enduring, warm, and possesses an indefinable quality from the oak spice.
