Willett Family Estate Bottled 6 Year Straight Rye

Consumed neat. Aged 5 years. A special selection. The aroma hints at dill and is very rye-forward. Layers of vanilla and apple. Peppery notes. Slightly darker characteristics compared to the 4 year expression from memory. Thick, syrupy, coating mouthfeel. Quite intense, even. Brown sugar, maple, and pepper on the palate. Incredible. A burst of honey with vanilla and rye on the taste. Impressive legs. Maple and honey sweetness linger in the mouth, embraced by the rye spices. Astonishing. The aroma was underwhelming. Quite ordinary, a basic rye. The taste and legs are spectacular flavor explosions. It ignites all sensations in the mouth with these remarkable flavors. Blown away by these tastes. Excellent choice by the selectors.

Cask #2251 Nose- Maple syrup, caramel, vanilla, spiced caramel, black pepper, cinnamon Palate- Buttered pancakes smothered in maple syrup, caramel, vanilla toffee, rye spice Finish- Long, buttery, mouth coating finish notes of Maple syrup, black pepper, and caramel This is amazing. It embodies everything desirable in a rye. Like buttery pancakes with maple syrup from start to finish. My sole critique is that the maple can sometimes overshadow other delightful flavors. I must find a single barrel Willett.

Barrel no 145, 58.6%. Wonderful aroma. Rich taste, spicy, subtly floral, deep. A faint papery note is hard to identify. Otherwise, this is a quality whiskey. Well-balanced. Clearly a rye. Very enjoyable to drink. 12/22/17 6 year rye, barrel 6066, 128 proof. Smells like cut grass. And rye sweetness. You can't mistake this for anything but a rye. Floral. Some sweetness. 9/6/20

I'm unsure of the batch or proof for this pour at Radiator. It was available off-menu for $28 per pour. The nose was heavy with spice and vanilla. The palate was full and spice-forward but also rounded and rich in flavor. The finish was long. It had to be Willett stock. The flavor was extremely similar to my 4-year at home, just a bit deeper and richer.

Tasted 12/17/19. I'm a bit perplexed by the description stating it's MGP whiskey, as what I tasted is definitely Willet's own distillate. Compared to the 4-year, the 6-year is more polished and doesn't taste like its younger counterpart. It would be great to see more older batches from them.

Anise, dill, and mint are present. The texture is quite viscous, almost syrupy, with robust flavors; this rye delivers a strong impact at 128 proof.
