About this bottle
The ninth installment in The Boss Hog series was developed by WhistlePig's Head Blender Meghan Ireland and Head of Whisky Development Liz Rhoades, drawing inspiration from the Nine Muses of ancient Greek mythology. Each limited edition straight rye whiskey is aged in American oak and then finished in two types of seasoned casks: Greek fig nectar and farm-made Tentura, a Greek liqueur. Notably, the Vermont distillery team created both finishes utilizing Greek and local components. These are single barrel expressions bottled at cask strength, resulting in proofs ranging from 102.5 to 106.2 (51.3-53.1% ABV). The nine Greek sirens, each represented by unique artwork, adorn this year's custom pewter toppers. Collectors seeking the most exclusive topper may wish to find Melpomene, the Muse of Tragedy. This release became available in October 2022 with a suggested retail price of $599.99.

A fantastic pour. It evokes the fig and honey syrup enjoyed with Greek yogurt for dessert at Greek eateries, combined with chocolate, cherries, berries, herbs, flowers, and spices.

Astonishing. Highly intricate with a broad spectrum of tastes. This might be my preferred Rye due to its distinctiveness. The tentura barrels undoubtedly imparted numerous different fruits. The aroma was so vivid, one would assume no more flavors could fit on the palate. However, the palate revealed many traces of dried fruit and clove. Abundant cinnamon and fig, similar to a fig newton-flavored whiskey. The finish was substantial and persistent, featuring caramel and fruit. Definitely worth the cost in my view!

Tastes like Indian pudding, Christmas trees, gingerbread cookies, eggnog, with a lot of clove, nutmeg, and licorice. To me, this is a rich, sweet, Christmasy drink that stays on the tongue. It has a lot going on, and while I couldn't drink it daily, it's amazing as something very different for a special occasion.

Overpowering clove and nutmeg. Cinnamon. Aged rye. Anise. Tastes like Christmas, but sadly, I drank it in May. Keep this one for the winter holidays.
