The WhistlePig Old World Series Port Finish Rye 12 Year is the second bottling in a collection of three 12-year-old rye whiskeys finished in wine casks. This series was developed by Dave Pickerell, a renowned craft spirits consultant and former Maker’s Mark distiller. Port, a fortified wine from Portugal aged in cellars, achieves intense sweetness due to the addition of neutral grape spirit, which stops fermentation. This sweetness transfers to the rye, a 95% rye and 5% malted barley mash bill made in Indiana, imparting strong fruit notes.

Nose: Pure fruit. Golden raisins, plums, grapes. Taste: Rye spice followed by grape flavor. The Port wine finish adds a needed extra hint of fruit. It tastes unlike any other rye you've encountered. Outstanding.
This is my preferred bottle from this producer. It's nicely smooth from the start, with a good touch of spice. You can detect a mild sweetness and the flavor from the port finish. It's my favorite bottle I own.
The aroma has notes of peat and isopropyl alcohol. The taste was more reminiscent of an Ardbeg 10-year whiskey. Unfortunately, I'm not (yet) a fan of Scotch, so...
Incredibly smooth with no burn. The best Whistlepig available.
I'm uncertain if this is the older version I had, but it was enjoyable.
This bottle is apparently $120. I'm not a fan of ryes.
