WhistlePig 12 year Old World Rye Bespoke Blend (Total Wine pick)

This custom bottling, a 12-year-old Rye Whiskey with a World Cask finish, was crafted by its maker for a specific individual in Vermont. It spent 12 years in fresh American oak, followed by a period in three different European wine barrels: Madeira, Port, and French Sauternes. Only 132 bottles were made. The initial taste is full-bodied with hints of vanilla and English toffee. Its complex development brings out notes of rye spice, botanicals, orchard fruits, orange blossom honey, port, and a savory, aged character. The lengthy and satisfying conclusion features dark chocolate, caramel, and a whisper of smoke.

A great tasting whiskey, but I'm uncertain if it justifies the price. I likely won't purchase it again.

A smooth, almost oily finish. Quite good for a rye.
