About this bottle

Westland Beer Cask Finish (Batch 1) joins the distillery's main offerings as part of the Cask Exploration Series. This American Single Malt, crafted from various malted barleys, undergoes finishing in Pacific Northwest beer casks, including Scotch ale, stout, brown ale, doppelbock, saison, and stock ale, after initial aging. The eight-year-matured spirit is bottled at 92 proof, with 10,961 bottles in the first batch; subsequent batches will be released as necessary. It will be available at the distillery and online in August 2024, with wider US distribution beginning September 2024, carrying a suggested retail price of $74.99.

Jarrett Hester 4.0

The richness and spice I anticipate from Westland are present, but the beer cask influence is quite subtle compared to later versions. It's noticeable, certainly, but tastes rather like straight ale, lacking the depth and complexity of subsequent cask exchanges. It remains enjoyable, though.
