Virginia Distillery Co. Sherry Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Malt

Poured a small amount straight up in a taster glass at my place. The color is quite pale. The aroma presents corn, dried grass, mild smoke, and apple skin. The palate offers spicy black pepper, dried grass, a sweet sherry touch on the palate's upper area, and a trace of almonds. Adding a splash of water significantly enhances it, allowing the sweet notes to emerge from behind the black pepper. It's not outstanding, but it's worth sampling. 7/20/19

A conflicted whiskey that seems unsure of its identity. It resembles scotch with hints of smoke, malt, brine, and vanilla. There's minimal sherry influence, so I question the duration of the finish. The color suggests a very short finishing period. The taste confirms this.
