Virginia Black American Whiskey

Nose: Caramel, butterscotch, cereal grain, cinnamon, nutmeg, and very faint ethanol. Palate: Light caramel, vanilla, grain, subtle stone fruit, and dry baking spices. The finish is medium-short with an odd grainy and bitter oak note, rye spice, and burnt vanilla. I attended a free virtual tasting where everyone received 2 oz samples. I wouldn't normally purchase an 80 proof celebrity whiskey, but it was free, so why not. Honestly, it's not bad. It's more complex than its proof and age suggest. However, I can get Rare Breed for this price. This is definitely not worth the money. If you're looking for an 80 proof sipper, there are many options under $30 that offer better value.

A curious spirit. The exceptionally dark amber color suggests potential coloring additives. The aroma presents deeply charred oak (perhaps MGP of Indiana's alligator char?), vanilla, and dried fruitcake. The taste mirrors these elements, with sweet corn and rye spice. It has a low-medium mouthfeel and a moderately short finish. While some detect flavoring, I don't.

Smooth and easy to drink, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and sweet corn. A subtle hint of baking spices precedes a brief finish. It exceeded my expectations. While sweet, it's not overwhelmingly so, contrary to other reviews. It performs its intended function well. This is an unusual one. It must contain added sweetener, as it's much sweeter than anticipated. Both the nose and palate feature the same profile: caramel corn. Sugary caramel atop popcorn. You have been evading zombies for two weeks. You find a discarded car that happens to hold a bottle of this. Now you have a choice. Drink the liquor, or save those extra bullets. Be sensible.. It was surprisingly quite smooth. However, do not be deceived; it is not truly exceptional.

I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of whiskey because they usually feel strong enough to strip paint, but this one was surprisingly smooth. Even my partner enjoys it. Well done, creators.
