J.P. Wiser's and the NHL Alumni Association (NHLAA) have collaborated on regionally specific whiskies, each crafted to reflect the playing styles of the honored hockey players. Guy Lafleur's whisky, made from 100% corn, is described as "smooth," aged for 10 years, and finished in Speyside, bourbon, and rum barrels. A portion of the proceeds supports the NHLAA's charitable initiatives. This release is exclusive to Canada.

Nose: caramel, maple barley sugar, subtle oak, French vanilla, a few apples at the start of fermentation. Mouth: Caramel and cane sugar that transitions somewhat to vanilla, followed by a woodier section where the alcohol reasserts itself. Finish is fruity, with honeyed apple, candied pear, all with a taste of wood soaked in sweet alcohol. Texture is slightly watery but silky, easy to drink.

A spicy warmth quickly intoxicates us in an electrifying maelstrom. Exactly the same feeling I had when I admired Guy transporting the puck. Guy! Guy! Guy!
I tasted a sample; this whisky isn't available locally. I wanted to dislike it because, well, the Montreal Canadiens, but I genuinely enjoyed it. It's easy to drink and full of toffee and butterscotch Lifesaver notes. It has a warming finish. I'm unsure if it's still available, but it's a good one. Excellent value.
