Vat 69 Blended Scotch Whisky

This is the seventh whisky in my current selection of 12 blends. Nose: Predominantly sherry. Some hints of light fruitiness and a distant briny note. Palate: Quite flat and empty overall. Some cereal notes – I'd call it malt if I were being generous. Again, a touch of brine and some subdued fruit. Finish: Short, with a slight tannic bitterness. Relatively uninteresting and best suited as a mixer. Diluting it brings out a light apple note and more sweetness on the palate, but it's restrained. There's nothing actively unpleasant about it – there's just not much there, and it's not quite as good as Bell's Original or Cutty Sark. This is tied for the most generic whisky among the affordable blends so far, along with J&B Rare, but it doesn't suffer from the sour notes that plague Famous Grouse and Grant's Family Reserve. Nose: Delicate, yet pleasant and fruity; Palate: Surprisingly malty, sweet, fresh, with lager beer in the background, red apples, milk chocolate, orange marmalade, a hint of honey; a genuinely rich blend.

Nothing about this spirit is as bad as its label. It's also not as enjoyable as its name suggests (wink wink), but it's lemony, light, and useful when needed.

I was intrigued by a recommendation. However, it did not meet my expectations. A rather dull whisky. The legs are weak and the nose is unremarkable.

Similar to J&B Rare, the only way I can consume this is within a mixed drink.

Inexpensive and light. Drinkable with ice, not terrible for the cost per liter.
