Part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon (Fall 2018) is a Kentucky straight bourbon released each autumn. Distilled in the spring of 2000, this bourbon was aged on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th floors of Warehouse C. Notably, its proof has been increased from 90 to 101, marking a permanent shift for the brand that honors its original 1974 launch strength.

The aroma is rich and fruity, with hints of flowers. A truly impressive taste. Notes of caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak. Everything you could wish for. It also has a bit of spice, which is unexpected for this type of spirit.
On the nose, oak is prominent initially, followed by caramel and candy notes as it develops. On the palate, it's slightly oily, with mineral and oak characteristics. Quite satisfying; I would drink it again.
Overwhelmingly caramel. The aroma is detectable from a great distance. A marshmallow-like warmth, though not excessively thick. It drinks remarkably smoothly, almost too much so.
An absolutely superb whiskey. It doesn't have the strong burn on the finish like EHT Barrel proof. It has the ideal amount of oakiness, nuttiness, and sweet caramel.
This is the second ER17 I've tried. It's quite good but doesn't quite measure up to the other top-tier options.
For $27 per 2 oz pour, I'd be very pleased to find a bottle at retail price.
