A must-have for mixing budget-friendly drinks! The only drawback, when compared to other rhum from the agricole family, is that the distinct half pot-distilled character is muted by the column-distilled component, resulting in a less satisfying conclusion. This gets 4 stars from me because its vibrant grassy/banana notes elevate it beyond the taste of other white rums in its price range, boasting a powerful aroma and intricate taste. It's not for drinking straight, but it's fantastic in mixed drinks! A great way to get pals acquainted with ester-rich spirits.

About this bottle
Charanda received a protected designation of origin (DOC) in 2003, meaning its production must adhere to specific regulations to bear the name, similar to Champagne. It can only be produced in Michoacán using certain sugarcane varieties. This spirit is derived from sugarcane juice, distinguishing it from molasses-based spirits and making it more akin to rhum agricole. Uruapan, meaning "red colored soil" in the indigenous Purépecha language, is the state's second most populous city. This unaged spirit is bottled at 92 proof.

Funky and dry, it reminds me more of a Rhum Agricole than a typical molasses-based rum. Grassy notes are prominent, along with some lingering sweetness from the molasses. I'm uncertain if I would drink this neat, but it works wonderfully in daiquiris or other mixed drinks when you desire more complexity than a standard white rum.
Hear me out. It reminds me of Arrack. Imagine if mezcal and rhum agricole had a child. The aroma is strongly of hogo and olive brine. The palate shifts quickly to banana and grassy, sweet flavors, with a Haitian character. Your first taste neat is confusing, but its uniqueness will draw you back.
Very cool. The aroma is somewhat like a rum and tequila blend, with significant cakey sweetness and fresh juiciness. It also has subtle hints of tropical over-ripeness that resemble hogo.
The nose has an olive brine aroma with a significant amount of funk. It's very earthy; the palate initially brings to mind Paranubes, but the finish is much more similar to a standard Agricole.
It had an earthy quality similar to tequila. Like a white rum with character.
