Trader Joe's 8 Year Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Smell: Bright clove honey is the main and immediate characteristic, with a bit of butteriness, vibrant orchard fruits like apple, pear, and apricot, a trace of hay, a subtle pleasant grassy or herbal note, some light newness that might impart the faintest hint of alcohol, overall quite simple but enjoyable. Taste: A bit thin, with honey and butteriness present, medium sweet maltiness, crisp fruits, light ashy barrel char, mild peppery spice, and a fairly brief finish. Honestly, this is one of my preferred affordable Speysides for regular enjoyment. It's genuinely fun to explore because it's a Trader Joe’s offering. While perhaps not highly complex, it's certainly worth trying. It delivers more than its price suggests. Seriously, give it a shot just for the novelty.

Color: Amber (likely has added color and is chill filtered) Nose: Medium-dark, with notes of plum and buttery brown sugar. Not an overpowering aroma. Entry: Buttery, sweet toffee, malty. Mid-palate: A coffee-like note emerges with some spice. Finish: Continues with the drying coffee flavor, plus a hint of apple skin. A fantastic bottle for the price.

Unbeatable for the cost. Features slightly bitter oak tannins over the typical Speyside character. This is among the better Scotch options from TJ's, alongside the blend.

Speyside is typically my least preferred Scotch region, but I tried this one. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't purchase it again.

Nose has oak, alcohol, and a touch of fruit from the orchard. Palate is buttery with subdued oak and fruit from the orchard. The finish is brief. Best served over ice.

A straightforward introductory scotch. It's pleasant, but nothing particularly stands out on the palate. Good value.
