Trader Joe's Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bourbon Cask Finish

Nose: honey, pear, Golden Delicious apple, light vanilla and oily orange citrus, possibly a mint-like clove?, the subtle brown sugar and cherry notes from the bourbon cask are evident with a gentle inhale and after a moment, carrying a faint, perfumy floral hint (carnations, rose, etc,) at the end of those bourbon characteristics. It's not an overly complex nose but pleasant enough. Taste: sweet honey and crisp orchard fruits, bourbon makes its presence known but in a complementary, not dominating, way, with barrel spices and a nice light, ashy finish of medium length. Not bad for a budget-friendly offering from Trader Joe's.

Color: Light copper. Nose: Unusual. Palate: Unusual, stale, and astringent taste. Perhaps a subtle hint of "apple"(?). I can't quite pinpoint a dominant flavor. My guess is "peat" — although the label says it's unpeated. This bottle reinforces my general dislike for Scotch and my preference for Bourbon. This was a gift from a neighbor around the holidays. It was a kind gesture, though I had my reservations. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try. That's my impression. I'll likely discard it.

Served straight. Its aroma is a subtle and natural mix of honey, field grass, and fir wood. The taste mirrors many of those mild and sweet notes. I detect additional honey, gently caramelized sugar, a touch of Gala apple, and the characteristic smoke you anticipate. Minimal warmth with a typical spicy wood and hide conclusion. An acceptable drink, but definitely not revolutionary. A fine choice for someone new to whisky. As a figure of speech, naturally.

The aroma brings notes of apple and some cereal. The palate offers abundant apple and a touch of sweetness on the front of the tongue. The smooth finish carries whispers of oak, toffee, and additional apple. All things considered, this performs much better than its approximate $20 price tag.

The aroma hints at Wild Turkey 101 along with sweet orchard fruits, grains, and malt. The palate mirrors these notes with a creamy texture, and the finish is brief, though it includes a fleeting bitter sensation.

Strong aroma of dark chocolate and nougat, reminiscent of a (DC) three musketeers bar. Has the signature Scotch bite and mild peat, but a lighter finish due to the bourbon barrel maturation. Not bad at all for the cost!
