Trader Joe's 10 Year Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Date: 12.5.22 Consumed: Neat in a Glencairn glass, then as a 2:1 highball with East Imperial soda (which I wouldn't suggest). Bottle opened: 3 years prior. Last tasted alongside: Grilled cheese. Aroma: Notes of oak, vanilla, apple, and pear. Flavor: -Neat: Flavors of caramel, oak, mild bitterness, and a light savoriness. The bitterness and savoriness are reminiscent of untoasted whole grain bread. Bitterness dominates the finish. Slightly more enjoyable than not. -Highball: Apple is the most noticeable flavor. The taste is satisfactory. It possesses pleasant qualities often found in Highland scotch. However, the noticeable bitterness prevents it from scoring higher, around 3.75-4. I would drink it again but wouldn't actively seek it out.

Nose: faint honey, crisp apple, ripe pear, dried grass, subtle green notes, mild grain character, quite straightforward but enjoyable. Palate: largely mirrors the aroma, gentle oak spice, a touch of white pepper, faint herbaceousness, brief smoky trace at the conclusion, rather fleeting. In sum, it's a respectable Highland, though a bit lacking in depth on both the smell and taste. Still, considering its affordability, it's worth exploring and offers good value for the cost.

Appears clear with amber gold color. Alcohol legs are spaced far apart and there are some white sediment clumps. The scent is of honey-covered white bread crust. The taste matches this, adding white bread and nutty notes like almond. It has a medium body, a somewhat slick feel, and a mostly dry conclusion.

Well, this is acceptable and worth the cost, but it's completely unremarkable and a little dull.

Smells like footwear, has an off flavor, and something feels wrong on the early palate. Sweet.

Smooth but uninspired. Lacks complexity. Generally quite dull.
