Town Branch Cask Strength Single Malt

Color is very dark, as one would expect from an 11-year-old aged in an Oloroso sherry cask. Smells of musty dark fruits with a hint of vanilla. Heavy oak wood is apparent immediately. Lots of sherry, Concord grape, white grape, and dates. The label says "coca" but I don't detect that. Not my preference. Taste is very fruity with significant sherry and heavy dark red fruits, figs, grapes, and black cherry. Oak with a bit of char appears in the middle. A peppery spice emerges but isn't too intense. The finish is rather short, leaving a fruity aftertaste with some citrus. The oak fades quickly, making the palate desire more. Overall, a well-balanced, well-crafted whisky. Aged 11 years exclusively in Oloroso Sherry casks.

Aroma: Sherry and malt. Taste: Sherry, raisins, a touch of tannic oak. Finish: Sherry, raisin, almost chocolate. It resembles a smoother, fuller-bodied, Sherried Scotch. It almost achieves a chocolate profile but remains with the raisin flavor that follows the Sherry. It drinks like it's well below proof, which is a good thing. It would be interesting to include in a blind tasting with traditional Sherried Cask Scotches.

Subtle tanginess and a smooth oak aftertaste. Gentle vanilla sweetness overall, and it's easily the best from the local branch's bourbons. If you favor floral notes, however, the small batch straight rye is recommended.

Certainly distinct. Lacks any real spice; it has a sweet warmth instead. I enjoyed it. If finished whiskeys are your thing, try this.

It's not bad, but not great either. You can detect the malt, but it's a very straightforward scotch.

It has a strange, off-putting flavor to me.
