Tormore 12 Year

I have to admit that before traveling to Speyside, I had never encountered this malt. Now I have a better understanding having tasted three expressions, and I wished to begin my reviews from the youngest to the oldest I tried, in sequence. Tormore 12yo is a standard Speyside single malt at 40% ABV, with fruitiness throughout. On the nose: very citrusy. Orange, tangerine, Caramel, Vanilla, orange zest, and Lemon. On the palate, it's more bitter and acidic than one might typically expect. Orange and tobacco. Pleasant and easy. Finish is full of ginger and a hint of acidic orange flavors. Medium length. Overall this is a textbook Speyside dram. A normal, easily drinkable whisky. 77 out of 100.

I'm undecided about this one; it has moments of excellence and moments of disappointment. There are pleasant notes of coffee and bitter dark chocolate, but then that bitterness lingers too long, extending into a finish that you wish was shorter. The nose is best described as damp hay, which is a positive if that appeals to you. And if you enjoy unripe apples, you'll likely appreciate it. Personally, I'm not impressed.

Apples, honey, and fresh oak on the nose. Light body, with orange zest, some tropical fruit and malt on the palate. This dram ends on a dry and nutty note. There is also a slightly bitter aftertaste on a rather short finish. Not bad overall, but not very interesting either.

Nose: Vanilla, sherry, and pepper. Hints of apple and honey. Lemon notes. Mouth: Sweet and viscous. Caramel flavors. Adding water makes it even smoother. Tastes of maple syrup. A mellow and oily finish.

Oily texture, add a little water strong flavor, a bit nutty robust finish 19 years old

Consider the 1990 bottling as well. It's 19 years old. A limited edition. Only 330 bottles were produced.
