Rating: 15/23 Nose: More citrus and orange notes than the blanco version. This offers a richer scent, with a type of tannic wood that doesn't overpower due to its subtle presence. Not particularly full-bodied, maintaining minerality alongside some barrel spices and mild savory smoke (though not resembling roasted meat). I appreciate the wood and smoke complexity here, but I wish there were more elements to provide balance. Just a hint of green grass. Palate: Considerably sweeter than the blanco, with more caramel and some of the vanilla from the blanco. Hints of orange. The initial burn is still present but fades quickly. Definitely spicy, with prominent ginger complemented by cinnamon and clove. Faint, muted woody flavors. Finish: Vanilla with some caramel and a hint of creamsicle. It's adequate, but the vanilla and creamsicle are somewhat excessive. Some lingering spicy heat as well. - Conclusion - I believe this is a minor improvement over the blanco, but the vanilla remains too dominant, and now there's a creamsicle note, which is interesting but not what I desire in neat tequila. I'm leaning towards a 15, possibly a 14. The tannic, spicy, woody character is its most compelling attribute. Hmm, this might just be a 14.
